Sales tax is regressive when compared to income tax. Sales tax disproportionately impacts those of us with lower incomes compared to income tax. Income taxes do nothing to collect taxes from tourists. They do nothing to collect tax from people making hundreds of dollars a day in tips either. Fair restructuring will hurt everyone. Not just people with better jobs. The Permanent Fund was intended to fund government after oil. Not to finance people’s personal lives. It’s time to pivot back to the Permanent real purpose Fund. Dividend checks were nice while they lasted but we simply can’t afford them anymore. It’s retarded to put up a raft of new taxes to avoid taking away the handouts. Permanent Fund earnings are now needed to fund government.

Like Walker has proposed tied to federal income taxes, progressive state income taxes, punish ambition and hard work and reward the freeloaders. Alaskans would pay for everyone else. Richard, you seem to have the text book neoconservative stance on tax structure. Taxes need a linkage between the resource provided and that beneficiary resource. Wealthy individuals and corporations benefit from all our publiclyfunded resources state and country vastly more than working class and poor individuals, in economic terms benefit derived. Write. Who do you think benefits more from our infrastructure, rule of law, military security and educational system, right? Warren Buffet, this is the case right? Buffet benefits more on an almost incalculable scale. You can’t tax people who have no excess discretionary income -there’s nothing to tax. Make sure you write a comment about it in the comment form. Generation of excess discretionary income is the only meaningful indicator as to who should pay taxes.

As we is being arguing semantic I will elucidate my argument. You are wrong RC. It isn’t a matter of semantics. Anyways,, if somebody who makes 50000/year pay per months helps them maintain the income they would enjoy if they were not serve in the legislature. You believe this, right? It is me neither.

Great, a double whammy on the poor and middle class. Actually the governor cuts the PFD in half, thatthatthat hurts the poor and middle class much worse than it does the affluent. Remember, he’s calling for a sales tax, thatthatthat also hurts the poor more than the rich. Now please pay attention. The only way to make this fair to the poor is to not tax necessities similar to food. Ok, and now one of the most important parts. How about considering an income tax instead, this is the case right? That will get money from nonresidents who work in Alaska but do nothing to help this state. This is where it starts getting very interesting. Make the first/yr. Medicaid. Fact, that was about what we were paying entry level supervisors and mid level administrative and technical employees, and quite a few the WTW eligible couldn’t meet the minimum qualifications for our lowest level entry jobs. That said, wTW didn’t work very well here. It is your own values that cause you to work in entry level/low level jobs, It is still true today. As a result, you’re economically a Helluva lot better off on welfare and you don’t have to get up and get out of your bathrobe.
It is estimated that a sales tax will generate more than twice revenue amount than an income tax. As property tax revenues decline because of lower property values the Anchorage government will need to squeeze property owners even more unless a lot of that sales tax revenue is reserved for local governments. For instance, bottom line -stand by for the economic implosion…….

I’m almost sure I only know what I read in the paper -and a few other places, when it comes to welfare.
It was just a matter of doing the math, when I dealt with this. OK, so you had to get out of your bathrobe to go down to DHSS and have them enable you to get your benefits. OK with safety net benefits to the handicapped/disabled and to widows, orphans, and the elderly. You’re a parasite, a screw up, or both, if you’re not one of those and you’re on welfare. Oftentimes I’d like to see the dividend capped at billion this comes to. The budget going to be cut more. Essentially, we have income of around If we implement all taxes at some reasonable rate we cannot cover billion this comes to to individual Alaskan citizens. They are using it to pay for for 50 for sales tax on an old beater and you could buy a new vehicle and only have to pay that same sales tax on an old beater and you could buy a new vehicle and only have to pay that same per resident every year, right?
BTW that makes us the best in state spending per capita by a great bit. SB21 Nels Anderson Jr. Let me tell you something. Jul 12
This isn’t a great decision to cutting the deficit. Just think for a moment. SB 21 is the problem. Too many generous tax credits and tax breaks are going to the oil and gas industry at every expense citizen in the state. Raiding the PF and taxing the people won’t effectively cut the deficit.
If we must tax Alaskans let it be a sales tax, Jul 12
About SB21, a number of Voting Alaska Voters voted for SB21, thatthatthat just goes to show you what loads of voting Alaska Voters understand>. The failed income tax proposal was linked to federal income tax. Americans do not pay income tax, I’d venture to guess even more shopping would shift online. Then again, is that healthy for Alaska’s retail businesses, am I correct?

Given shipping cost to Alaska I buy next to nothing online and frankly believe most folks who claim they do are either fibbing or can’t count well enough to factor in the cost of freight and notice how badly they are getting hosed Fred Willis
AHHA, shipping is free including for groceries, clothing, tires, and more.
Plus what cost I pay on line for items is less than I can get at Sears, Costco, etcetera With less money coming into the home account, shopping on line saves many Alaskan’s money.

Of interest today, the governor approved the legislature’s expenditure of HUGE money to purchase the Wells Fargo building in Spenard as the new Anchorage LIO building. Gary Stevens told me today that the sales paperwork may be completed in 5 weeks and at that point they will give Mark Pfeffer three month’s notice of the legislature’s decision to vacate the Taj Mahawker in a week and a half. Pfeffer is suing the state for
